If you're a student at a college or university, you might have spent some time browsing your school's online list of organizations, clubs, and assorted other ways to be involved.
It struck me that something like that should exist for the rest of us. Many of us want to be more involved in our communities but might not know where to start. Or what's out there.
Sure, they can, but have you seen the tech industry recently?
Seriously, though, small organizations have enough on their plates without having to worry about keeping a website updated or Search Engine Optimization.
And social media isn't a help these days, either. Algorithms hide helpful information in favor of ads. Sites designed for organizing groups are hit or miss, and you can't be sure which one people are using.
We need a central place for information, which is why this is here.
Nothing is quite as symbolic of everyone contributing to make life better as a potluck. But in the state of Indiana, where I grew up, we don't call them potlucks. We call them pitch-ins. It seemed to fit, since what I'm hoping to do is get more people to pitch-in and be involved in their community.

Hi, I'm Kathleen! I'm a big believer that recurring contact with others where you work together on things is a much better way to build relationships than another happy hour. I also volunteer for assorted groups and think when the world gets you down action is the best way to feel better. And if you're truly a DC type, yes I can be found on LinkedIn.
